Maths and English Tuition at Putney

Welcome to the Putney First Class Learning Centre. We support children in the local community with both maths and English tuition. We also help students prepare for 11 plus examinations. Students of all ages attend our study centres. We cater for learners from Early Years and primary including SATs and 11 plus preparation through to GCSE students. Our English and maths programmes are tailored to learners' individual needs so students move on only when they are confident with a topic. At First Class Learning we believe in 1% steps to 100% success.

Our expert Centre Managers support your child's learning in maths, English or both subjects together in order to help with their school studies, build confidence and develop independent learning skills.

How we work

Your child will be invited to visit the FCL Putney centre to complete an assessment to determine which path is most suitable for them. Following the assessment and once you are happy to enrol your child onto the programme, Vicky, your FCL Putney Manager, will establish a bespoke programme of work that will support and encourage your child’s learning. Your child will be able to attend regular term time classes at our centre, alongside the structured homework programme which also continues throughout the holidays to ensure continued progression.

The Putney First Class Learning Centre is run by Vicky Barnett, BA, MSc, PGCE. Vicky is fully trained and qualified to deliver the First Class Learning study programmes. Having completed her PGCE, Vicky taught in a London prep school for nine years. She is now 100% committed to running the FCL centres in Putney, supporting children with their learning. Every FCL tutor holds an enhanced DBS certificate.

Maths

The Maths programme is designed to equip your child with the fundamental skills required for success in school mathematics. FCL maths can be seen as training for school, allowing your child to become 'fit' for school and ready to tackle maths with confidence.

English

The English programme is designed to develop the key skills to allow your child to read fluently, spell accurately and write confidently. The development of consistent joined handwriting is an integral part of the programme. Children work towards developing solid comprehension and independent writing skills.

FAQ

Is there car parking at the centre?

There is parking in the nearby roads.

What happens if my child is unable to attend a class?

Work can be collected from the centre during the class or another time from Vicky’s house.

Will I be able to come into the class?

We encourage children to be dropped off as it is less disruptive for both your own child and for the other children in the class.

Are there classes during the holidays?

No, classes are held during term time. However, children continue with their homework programmes throughout the holidays to ensure continued progression.
