Maths and English Tuition at Potters Bar

Welcome to the Potters Bar First Class Learning Centre. We support children and adults in the local community with maths, English and science tuition.

Together we will work with your child to release their full potential through an individualised learning programme tailored to their learning needs to fill in any gaps in their understanding. They will grow in confidence as they learn at a pace they are comfortable with. By developing independent learning skills (including problem-solving) your child will make better progress in their studies at school and show maths, English and science who is boss.

All ages and abilities are welcome to join our learning centre. We cater for learners from primary (Reception, KS1 and KS2) through to secondary education (KS3, KS4 & GCSE). We also cater to adult students.

Little and often, we know works well, because we don’t believe your child will benefit from endless repetition. Students only move on once they are confident they have mastered a topic. Regular testing by us ensures your child is equipped to make the best progress possible. At First Class Learning Potters Bar we believe in 1% steps to 100% success. Your child is in safe hands at our centre, as all our tutors hold an enhanced DBS certificate.

How we work

We start by arranging a convenient time with you and your child to complete a free assessment. These are done via a secure Zoom video call. The Centre Managers (Caroline and Tim) will provide a detailed evaluation of your child's strengths and areas needing improvement. A personalised learning programme is put together to meet your child’s needs. After enrolment, your child can then begin completing daily worksheets which we will post to you. They start each week with a half-hour 1:1 call with us to learn what they need to complete the week’s work. Our programme works in partnership with you and your child – we’re here to give them the tools they need to succeed. We encourage you to go through your child’s daily homework and watch them mark their work. This builds up their confidence and allows you to see their results and progress.

Centre Manager

Our Potters Bar First Class Learning Centre is run by Caroline Lawrie. Caroline started her career in Chartered Governance but 'fell' into the education sector when her children were very young so she could spend more time with them during the school holidays. She has many years of training experience including instructing tutors how to lead classes and get the best results from their students. As Centre Manager, Caroline is fully trained and qualified to deliver the First Class Learning study programmes.

Maths

The First Class Learning maths programme is designed to equip your child with the fundamental skills required for success in school mathematics. Using a wide range of resources, it covers all the essential areas of the school curriculum.

English

Our English programme concentrates on reading, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, creative writing and handwriting. Our initial diagnostic testing assesses your child's needs so that we can provide them with an individualised programme.

Science

Our comprehensive science programme will develop your child's knowledge and the skills required as part of their school curriculum. The programme has a proven record for improving results and encourages enjoyment in learning.
