Maths and English Tuition at East Kilbride

Welcome to the East Kilbride First Class Learning Centre. We support children in the local community with maths, English and science tuition.

Through our structured programmes, we personalise each child’s learning path, which is targeted to fill any existing gaps in their understanding and promote development of existing knowledge. This helps with their schoolwork, builds confidence, and develops independent learning skills.

Our programmes are flexible and tailored to learners' individual needs and abilities, so students move on only when they are confident with a topic. Regular testing ensures that the best possible progress is made. The 'little and often' approach, with plenty of repetition and practice, really does make a huge difference.

How we work

After you contact us, we’ll schedule a convenient time for your FREE assessment, which includes 30-minute English and maths diagnostic tests. Afterwards, we’ll explain the FCL programme, including routines, costs, and feedback. We offer a 2-week free trial to help families decide if the programme suits their needs. Based on the initial tests and trial, we’ll determine the best starting point to support your child’s learning, build confidence, and address any gaps. They will then attend weekly sessions. Each session focuses on reviewing corrections, introducing new concepts, and encouraging independent work with tutor support. Daily homework reinforces classroom learning. Regular testing throughout the year ensures your child’s confidence and skill mastery, and we provide personal feedback after each session to keep you informed of their progress.

At First Class Learning East Kilbride, we're led by Dr. Qurratul Ain Abedi, a dedicated MBBS-qualified doctor and seasoned educator who has spent years teaching medical and allied health students. With a genuine passion for education, Dr. Abedi is fully trained to deliver the First Class Learning programmes with precision and care. She holds both an enhanced DBS certificate and a PVG certificate, ensuring our centre provides a safe, supportive, and stimulating learning environment that allows students to thrive. As the personal overseer of every Skills Assessment, Dr. Abedi brings her expertise to tailor tuition that's engaging, motivating, and confidence-building for each student. Her greatest joy is witnessing those 'aha!' moments when children grasp new concepts with excitement and enthusiasm - it's a privilege she takes great pride in sharing with our community.

Maths

The First Class Learning maths programme is designed to equip your child with the fundamental skills required for success in school mathematics. Using a range of resources, it covers all the essential areas of the school curriculum.

English

Our English programme concentrates on reading, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, creative writing and handwriting. The initial diagnostic testing assesses the child's needs so that we can provide an individualised programme.

Science

Our comprehensive science programme will develop your child's knowledge and the skills required as part of their school curriculum. The programme has a proven record for improving results and encourages enjoyment in learning.

FAQ

How does FCL differ to 1:1 tutoring?

FCL offers structure and daily practice, with a ‘little and often’ approach, enabling the child to retain what they have learnt and gain confidence with ease. It also develops good study habits and independent learning so that they don’t become dependent on others teaching them.

How will FCL help with my child’s school work?

By filling in any gaps they may have and developing their confidence we can change their attitude to a positive one and at the same time give them the skill sets needed to carry through to all school work.

Can I sit with my child while they do their work at the centre?

If your child is worried about coming into their first session, parents can come in to begin with but you won’t need to stay for long. Once they see the friendly faces and welcoming atmosphere, they are happy to stay on their own. We like to encourage independent and confident students.

If I join, am I tied into FCL for a set amount of time?

No, not at all. FCL is primarily a long term programme, not a 'quick fix'. However, there are many reasons why you may need to stop, so I just ask for a month's notice.
