Maths and English Tuition at Ealing West

Welcome to the Ealing West First Class Learning Centre. Rashmi Kharbanda, Centre Manager, has been running highly successful after-school maths and English classes for over 25 years (15 years Kumon).

Students of all ages are provided with a structured and individualised daily plan of study of around 10-15 minutes per day. 1:1 support is given whenever it is needed by a video call or phone call and feedback is given to ensure mastery and fluency.

Through our structured programmes, Rashmi individualises each child’s learning path, which is targeted to fill any existing gaps in their understanding. This therefore helps with their school work, builds confidence and develops independent learning skills, something that is extremely important in today's busy classrooms in schools.

Our maths and English programmes are flexible and tailored to learners' individual needs and abilities so students move on only when they are confident with a topic. Regular testing ensures that the best possible progress is made. The 'little and often' approach, with plenty of repetition and practice, really does make a huge difference. We also provide Sats preparation for KS1 and KS2, 7-plus, 11-plus, 13-plus and GCSE Maths.

We are an Ofsted registered centre and accept Childcare Vouchers. This means that parents can easily apply for significant savings on tuition fees via tax free childcare amongst other schemes.

How we work

The first step is to arrange a convenient time for your child to complete some initial assessments. These are done via a video call. The Centre Manager, Rashmi, will discuss how she can help your child with their maths or English. An individualised programme is put together that will support and encourage your child's learning enabling them to gain confidence and fill in gaps that they may have. Your child can then start completing the daily worksheets with ongoing support from the Centre Manager whenever it is needed. Our programme is a partnership between First Class Learning, your child and you as parents so communication between all is important. We encourage all parents to mark the homework daily so that corrections can be made as they go through the week and their progress will be seen in the results. If they have any problems with the work, you can call your Rashmi at any time between 10:00 and 18:00, Monday to Friday.

FAQ

How does FCL differ to 1:1 tutoring?
FCL offers structure and daily practice, with a ‘little and often’ approach, enabling the child to retain what they have learnt & gain confidence with ease. It also develops good study habits and independent learning so that they don’t become dependent on others teaching them.
How will FCL help with my child’s school work?
By filling in any gaps they may have and developing their confidence we can change their attitude to a positive one and at the same time give them the skill sets needed to carry through to all school work.
Can I sit with my child while they do their work at the centre?
If your child is worried about coming into their first session, parents can come in to begin with but you won’t need to stay for long. Once they see the friendly faces and welcoming atmosphere, they are happy to stay on their own. We like to encourage independent and confident students.
If I join, am I tied into FCL for a set amount of time?
No, not at all. FCL is primarily a long term programme, not a 'quick fix'. However, there are many reasons why you may need to stop, so I just ask for a month's notice.
